My client; a leading global provider of communications technologies with a presence in 15 countries round the globe currently have an exciting opportunity for a Unix systems administrator. This is a permanent role to be based in Yorkshire.

The purpose of your role is to ensure the stability, availability and effectiveness of the Core Business System ensuring high levels of response and customer support.

Your duties will include:

•Perform reboots on week ends.
•Operate a successful Helpdesk/Change Management system to clear issues in a timely manner.
•Complete Software and Hardware builds in a timely and efficient manner.
•Produce, publish and maintain documented backup plans for action to be taken following server down time across Europe.
•Create and maintain support documentation and provide in-house training as required.
•Ensure that switch availability and resiliency level meets with company targets.
•Produce technical reports as required by the business on both failures and system problems.
•Provide basic support for the LAN/WAN infrastructure.
•Manage projects as directed by the System Engineering Manager and other projects as required by the organisation.
•Build and maintain close-working business relationships with both internal customers and 3rd party vendors.
•Provide Switch security in line with company and Sarbox protocols.
•Operate the core system in a Solaris/VERITAS environment.
•Operate SAN and NAS storage systems.


Your technical skills should include:

•Strong experience in Solaris 2.x administration.
•Experienced in Linux Red Hat.
•Understanding of TCP/IP networking.
•Experienced in DNS, Apache.
•Exposure to VERITAS Volume Manager and VERITAS Cluster software management.
•Understanding of Unix Shell (sed, awk) or PERL programming.
•SAN/NAS.

If you have exposure to Legato L100 backup administration and troubleshooting this would be highly beneficial but is not essential.
